Haiti Earthquake Relief Effort by the HAAF

From the President & CEO of the Haitian American
Association of Filmmakers, Mr Raynald Delerme...

It happened on January 12, 2010. My homeland fell apart. I was in Miami when a 7+ magnitude hit my country, Haïti. For 4 days, I had no words on my friends, relatives, loved ones, fellow filmmakers, my newsteam, all phones were down.

As I gathered as much information on the devastation that occured, I thought of the lost ones, the ones usually left behind in massive relief effort. In big systems like the one that were being built up for Haiti, there is always a hole.

Waney, Carrefour, I thought...

Carrefour, the neighborhood where I grew up, where my father, Gérard Delerme, built a school in 1963 (Ecole Frère Polycarpe), the place where so many love and respect my family, was not going to be served nor helped in the first days not to say weeks of the International relief, I thought. So I decided to undertake a relief mission to Haiti, but on a micro level, directed specifically at the PVS Cultural Center located at my deceased father's school. There, I could bring medical aid, food, water, whatever I could get. Since all flights to Haiti were cancelled, I had to find a secure route through Santo Domingo.

With the help of the Haitian American Association of Filmmakers, a non-profit corporation in the US which I preside, I launched the Polycarpe Relief Effort to bring relief aid to Carrefour.

The first help came from my cousin in New-York, Borgela Alexandre, the first video technician my company PVS (Polycarpe Video Studio) had in its history. With his donation, we set up that route through Santo Domingo.

I was soon joined by my younger brother, Patrick Delerme, who is the CFO of Polycarpe, Inc., a non-profit corporation involved in bringing psychological help to children in Orlando.

Then came the much needed and unanticipated message for ADOCINE, the Dominican Association of Filmmakers, who were willing to join our effort and were already receiving donations for Haiti. They coordinated the transportation of those donations and this is where our story really begins.

Here is what is meant by "Filling the Hole."

PVS Cultural Center
in Waney 93, Rue Nerva, Imp. Deschamps.

This school was built in 1963 by my father,

GERARD DELERME

It is a very big campus
and has served the community for many years.
We have so far been able to bring
water, food, medical and psychological aid
to more than 400 people.

At present, we are sheltering more than
500 Scouts who either lost their homes or their parents
and were sleeping in the streets.

We are looking for all types of humanitarian aid:
medicine, food, clothes, tents, covers.
We have already received many donations.
We now need to transport them from the US to Santo Domingo
and from there to Haiti.

You can make a financial donation
directly on this website with your credit or debit card.
